If you like caring men, Japanese culture, and the quest for happiness, you’ll adore Amy Tasukada’s heartwarming tale.
This is a rather short book, but the story is so sweet it made me smile and laugh many times. Both Iroha and enta are simple, charming characters, a case of attracted opposites. Each represents a part of the modern world, how it works and how different things can be depending on where you are. The comparisons couldn't have been better.
One of the things I truly liked is that it makes you think about art and beauty. As before, it changes a lot depending on who you ask, a topic you find several times in the novel. Who decides what beauty is? What makes anything beautiful? It makes you question what you know about art, maybe more or less depending on how immersed you are in it. Growing up watching art exhibits and pieces almost daily, I liked to see that world again under a different lense.
Amy Tasukada has a good style, simple and direct, but charming at all times. Even the most simple scenes are pretty, immersing you when she enjoys the story the most. It had the ingredients for a dramatic story, but it was nice to keep it lovely and sweet. I think it's a book you may want when the real world is just too much to deal with. It worked for me, at least!
Being the first novel of a new series, Finding Our Love, sets the right tone. You know what to expect from it after this first installment, but there's enough room for surprises. I hope we get another artistic book in the future, more Japanese culture, because I loved that first visit to Oiso and want to know more about it, and more interesting, sweet characters. This book has the right amount of sugar we need now.
About Amy Tasukada:
As an only child, Best Selling Author Amy Tasukada began putting her daydreams to paper at the young age of ten. She was inspired by Japanese literature, works from French classic authors like Marcel Proust, as well as tons and tons of Yaoi/Boys’ Love manga. However, there were only so many books that piqued her interest. Fueled by an obvious lack of books she wanted to read, Amy decided to write them herself. Readers who crave intense sagas with complex characters will devour Amy Tasukada's thrilling tales of crime, love, and gore. While crafting her novels, Amy researches each setting extensively to paint the most colorful picture for her readers. She creates each story’s setting in a way that has been described as “crisp and lyrical” by fans. When she’s not penning a new installment of her mafia series or attending a writing workshop, the North Texas author can be found drinking tea, reading, or filming J-Fashion hauls on her Youtube channel.
