Hey there, pornies! I hope you are all well. This is going to be a good week in terms of reading, and i've gotten so many good books I'll a bit away from social media althoguh I'll keep posting the reviews. Two nights ago I finished reading Avristin: Duty and Sacrifice 2, by Devon Vesper, and liked it just like the first novel in this saga. Thanks to Gay Book Promotions for sending me a copy of this book and next ones!

Avristin isn’t the quiet, contemplative monastery he imagined…Valis escaped his birth father and made it to Avristin. Now, the adopted son of his two saviors, the honorable Aesriphos Kerac and Darolen, Valis vows to become just like them. The only things standing in his way are his lack of magic and crippling social anxiety. With the help of six new friends, Valis hopes to overcome his new fears. But when the eldest of the group, Tavros, finds the mark of the evil God, Qos, tattooed on Valis’ skin, he sends Valis right back into his birth father’s clutches.Surviving and escaping the prison cell is just his first test. Once he’s back in Avristin, more await. And with Tavros as his new mentor, Valis needs to do everything in his power to make the man trust him again. Valis’ entire future depends on it, in more ways than one.The M/M romantic elements in God Jars is a very slow burn. The God Jars Saga contains explicit material including violence, abuse, and M/M sexual encounters, and is not advised for anyone under the age of 18.
Like the first book, this novel is a bit slow as we get to know the new characers, which are quite a few, explore Valis' new home, how his life will be from now on, and a couple of dramatic moments that will leave him thinking. There are many changes in short time, so he has to learn how to deal with all of this as fast as possible, but also in a healthy manner.
We discover the myths and legends of the Aesriphos, which are related to Sovras, the God Valis has been praying to for a long time, how their magic works and more. His interactions with the other characters, although similar, show him changing at his own pace, evolving in order to become a better version of himself who can heal from trauma and abuse.
While the story is great and has many interesting points, I found it lacking the fantasy of the first one. This second novel is way more calmer than Saviors - Duty and Sacrifice 1, so it was a bit hard to keep going. However, we meet Valis on a different, deeper level, and get some clues abou what could happen with his father, mother and the infamous Qos.
In general lines, Avristin: Duty and Sacrifice 2 is a good novel and keeps you entertained. While a slower that the previous one, it focuses on world-building and the new characters. Devon Vesper keeps the good style, the plot-twist and develops the mythology of the saga. I liked a lot, and started already with the third book, so stay tuned for the review!
