Hi, pornies! I hope you are all alright. ^^ Today I come with a comic review, a short book that I liked and gave a good time. In the middle of... LIFE in general, and you get the idea, I needed a light reading, something that took me out of this world, something like Arrival, by Clive Masteir. Thanks to the author for sending me a copy!

Travelling to Europe, Andy is invited to stay over at his friend’s. When he arrives, his friend Alice gives him the keys to her apartment while she’s still at work, and tells him to settle in and feel absolutely at home. Which he does. Only she forgot to mention her brother Alex also lives with her. When Andy stumbles into him, Alex tells Andy he doesn’t speak English. Hours before Alice is bound to return home from work, Andy now finds himself alone in her apartment with Alex, and Alex simply doesn’t talk to him. Even though the circumstances of their acquaintance are a little weird, they might still find the means of communication, especially when presented with an unusual challenge. Gay romance comics with a sci-fi twist. No sex. 50 pages.
You all know I don't usually review non-sexual content (please, I have a porn review in the making!) But reading the synopsis made me consider this one and make an exception, which I'm glad about. It's simple, it goes straight to the point, includes a soft dose of humor, I liked the characters and the ending? Okay, that was weird.
I really liked the colors and the designs, how calming and relaxing they are, making it easy to slip from the real world and focus on what you have in front. Despite I always have my doubts about 3D digital characters because they tend to look like plastic dolls (and like in any fabulous Chromatica style, mind you), Clive's look smoother and nicer.
However, I have to be honest that I was waiting for something more. The SciFi aspect was too soft for me, it was more like a shock than an actual element of the story. Talking with the author about the ending, he told me something that made it all have more sense:
I wanted to play around the word "arrive". The aliens arrive to Earth, yes, but also Andy and Alex (by the time the story ends) arrive to a place where they are together, in these weird circumstances. They've arrived into each other's lives, so to speak. What happens next is a different story. Whatever it is, they will be together in this. It just so happens that the two things coincide.
Well, now I get it. Being more experimental in that sense, no wonder I was confused. I liked it more after knowing that, and saw how the ideas were related. I hope things are clearer in the future, though (or that I get it sooner, whatever happens first).
If you like short but good stories, get a copy of Arrival. It gave me a really good time, and needless to say you will read it in a sitting! Remember to support the author on Patreon (where you can also download the comic on HD quality) and follow him on Instagram (where you can read Arrival for free, on epage per day)
