An all-new boys love by the creator of Dekoboko Sugar Days!Enoki is practically the poster-boy for what a typical nerd looks like: short and slight, complete with big round glasses and social awkwardness. His main hobby is making video games, and he's used to not having many friends at school. Then, he meets Shirataki, a former member of the baseball club and his exact opposite; tall, muscular and sporty. Despite their many differences, the spark of friendship between the two boys begins to grow into something more...
I wasn't going to read more than a few pages of this book to have an idea about the story, the art, just a quick glimpse about what would be waiting for me. However, I kept reading, more and more and more and more, until I was done with more than a half of it. Oh well, who cares. In the blink of an eye, I was done with the whole book!
Obviously it's a story that doesn't let you go until you finish it. Enoki and Shirataki are characters beautiful both on the inside and the outside, they both develop in good ways, but keep their essence at the same time. I started reading This Wonderful Season With You to remember my days at school and that time when one could only hope for a happy ending with the guy of his dreams, and I'm totally satisfied with the result.
The art is amazing as well, with clean lines, a detailed style, and a character design that makes it obvious who is who as soon as you look at them (although there are a few surprises in story to make things more interesting!) My only concern was that final, sexual scene that added little to nothing to the general plot. Atsuko Yusen created an incredible young adult manga, but including that scene doesn't make much sense considering the public, if you ask me. I enjoy hybrids like this, but I'm not sure it's the best option for this manga in particular.
Although I usually complain about stories not being long enough and having the potential to become a series, but part of the charm This Wonderful Season With You has is for being a standalone story, leaving the characters in a great place for an ending. Atsuko Yusen crafted a cute and comic romance you will not get bored of at all and that will make you smile a lot. Like, a lot.
