Book Review: His Own Way Out, by Taylor Saracen

Hi pornies! Afte a long absence, I come back with a book you all need to read. Seriously, this is a must-have for any fan of porn and the man on the cover (isn't him sexy even with clothes on?)
I got my not-so-pretty hands into an oh-so-pretty book past year. His Own Way Out is the first book in The Rise Up Series, by Taylor Saracen. In short, it tells the story of gay porn star Blake Mitchell before he got into the adult industry.
Not just a sexual novel. This an adult novel.

His Own Way Up describes Blake’s final school years, starting with the infamous, dreaded moment of his coming out, when a prick of an ex-boyfriend outed him to the rest of the school as bisexual, and the story develops from there, showing us the world this guy was in before becoming the man we all know and jerk off to today.

I didn’t know what to expect from this book, and I mean: how do you all imagine the before-porn life of a porn star to be like? The answer is filled with drama and problems. Taylor Saracen made this a story of loss and gain, of struggle and mistakes. Drugs, homelessness, school expelling, crappy jobs… you name it, and chance are that Blake lived it.

What is amazing is how one thing led to another, how it was all related and not just a list of events that paved the way. Although both Blake and the author describe His Own Way Out as a “fictionalized account of true events,” you can guess which of those events really happened and which ones were added to the story. However, they are all naturally sewn together.
For those who expect a lot of sex, kinky scenes, hot kisses and leather-level of description, you will be disappointed. This one is focused on Blake’s coming of age, on the real world instead of any fantasy we may have created. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I really enjoyed this book and like the idea a lot! You don’t always discover such an interesting proposal with a long list of elements, and, to make it better, teaches you a lot about life in general, not only porn, because this is not just a sexual novel. This an adult novel.
