Hi, pornies! Ready for the weekend? "My chocolate's so good it'll make you grovel on your knees!"Kaoru is brimming with confidence. After all, he opened a patisserie after studying in France, and is the head chef of his own store. But there's one small problem: his customers are enamored with a local Japanese sweet shop and Soujirou, the attractive and reserved craftsman who makes the treats on offer.Convinced that stuffy old Japanese confections could never compete with his modern, Western style creations, he decides the only way forward is to prove to Soujirou that his chocolates are the best. But when Soujirou accepts his gift gracefully and even compliments him on his skills, Kaoru's intense feelings take a sudden turn in the opposite direction.
As I said, this story is way too cute and sweet. It starts a little weird, with some over dramatic reactions I couldn't fully connect with, but things got better in a few pages, with both Kaoru and Soujirou becoming characters I couldn't not like. While simple at first, I saw a good dose of humanity in them, their feelings, even thoughts.
Chéri, My Destiny! developed pretty quickly, and it's also short, so you're done with it in no time, it's also intense at times, but in reality it's just a love story about two guys falling in love, adding a lot of fun and flirting. I liked the fact that one of the characters is bi and there was a quick comment on the issue, something I've also experienced, so the representation also gave it many points.
I can hardly say anything bad about this manga, to be honest. The script is concise, effective, the development is great, the art is plain gorgeous, clean, detailed, well-done, and both things complement each other perfectly. It's just a wholesome, healthy, cute story that makes you feel good when you need it, the definition of comfort reading.
As much as I prefer complex, intense stories, something light is always good, and Chéri, My Destiny! was the perfect option for me. I would usually say I wanted it to be more developed, longer, but this one works the way it is. If you're into romance with some comedy, bits of drama, and beautiful art, then it will be perfect for you as well.
