Book Review: Secretly Mine

Hello pornies. ^^ Is your week gong okay? I just finished reading another novel, and you shouldn't be surprised to know I loved it just as with all the other books from this author. I couldn't put it down once I started it, giving a great starting point to a possibly great series. I'm speaking about Secretly Mine, by Collette Davison. Thanks to Gay Book Promotions for sending me a review copy!

I’m being paid to spend a month on tour with Jesse Steele, to keep him safe and protect his image. Simple.
The first rule of being a bodyguard, is never get involved with your client. It should have been easy to follow, but Jesse Steele is a beautiful, kind omega, who’s far more down to earth than a pop star has any right to be.
Someone discovering our tryst becomes the least of our worries when it becomes clear Jesse has a stalker.
Can I love Jesse and protect him, or will my emotions cloud my judgement and put him in danger?
Secretly Mine is the first book in Offbeat Shifters, an m/m paranormal romance series with a continuing storyline. This book includes a protective tiger shifter, a sweet monkey shifter, lots of cuddles, secret kisses, piggy back rides, and a HFN ending. Whilst it is set in an alternate universe where omegas give birth, there are no pregnancy or birth scenes in this book.
Trigger warning for mentions of infertility.

I liked this novel a lot because it played a bit with the classical elements of the omegaverse structure. Although you can find the dominant alpha and the emotional omega, there are a few twists here and there, some cute scenes thanks to Jesse being a monkey shifter, and there's a bit of power play between these two guys that sets the stage for a promising second book. The best part was that there was a great balance between the romance and the relationship between Jesse and his dad, how complicated it was and how it evolved as the story progressed. That's something I haven't seen that often, and I'm glad this novel gave it enough space.

As always, Colette Davison has a great style, develops an interesting plot in no time, catches the reader's attention and doesn't leave u waiting too much for the action to get started. The climax scene was everything I expected it to be. The author plays with your thoughts and tries to lead you in one direction, only to prove you were wrong all along. That was a nice plot twist!

What I didn't like that much was that there was some of instalove between Jesse and Isaac. I felt it was a bit fast the way they feel in love with each other, which doesn't mean I didn't find it cute as fuck, but I expected things to go slower because of their context. The ending was also a bit strange for me, but coming from the instalove background I guess it was to be expected.

If you like cute omegaverse stories that have a high dose of reality and speak about complicated family relationships, hidden loves, and a thrilling development that takes your breath away, you're gonna love Secretly Mine. I'm curious about what will happen in the next book since the main problem was already solved in this first installment in the Offbeat Shifters, but there are still some issues that need their space. This will be an interesting ride, and I'm eager to know more about Jesse and Isaac.
