Hi pornies! How are those Holiday plans going? I hope great!
I didn’t expect to read another Christmas story so soon, but reading the synopsis A Husband for Santa, by Doreen Heron, I had to give this one a try. It sounded like a a good novel, and I told myself Why not? However, it wasn’t what I expected.

Turk is the next Father Christmas in line, the son of the current Santa. He has been waiting to be in charge since he could remember, but his parents won’t let him since he doesn’t have a wife. Claiming this to be a ridiculous reason not to give him his birthright, Turk goes to London to clear his mind, meeting Sym, a PhD candidate and Christmasologist in the making.
A Husband for Santa had all the right ingredients to become a cute story, but it rushed the romance way too much. After the first half of the book or so, I couldn’t but wonder why Doreen Heron jumping so much from chapter to chapter.
Don’t get me wrong. The start was incredible and I daydreamed about Lurk and Sym, but the instalove broke the spell. (Minor spoilers) I was waiting to see how Lurk’s parents would react when their son told them he is gay, why Sym’s dad is in jail, how that first meeting with Sym’s mom would be like, but none of that happened! Well, the first one kind of, but I didn’t expect Father Christmas to take things so lightly: if your son’s gay, great, but didn’t he think about having a grandson to take Turks place? (End of minor spoilers).
I read A Husband for Santa in just one hour or so. I like to have light readings now and then, and it doesn’t demand a lot of attention since it is pretty simple. Also, Doreen Heron describes so beautifully even the littlest detail that you imagine everything and fall in love with her writing.
I really wanted this book to work, but although it didn’t meet my expectations, it still was funny, cute and beautiful. A Husband for Santa, by Doreen Heron, was a good reading for the season. Thanks to the publisher for the copy!
