Hello, pornies! Looking good and feeling fine? (Yes, I just quoted Gaga, because why wouldn’t I?) Rough days these have been, but I am becoming more active in Twitter as a result, you can say hello anytime! You will find sexy content, witchcraft and gaga. Good enough for you?
Anyway! I finished reading We Still Live, by Sara Dobie Bauer, and you definitely need to read this book! I had my doubts for a moment, but hey, this novel surprised me a lot! It is sexy, it is funny and sweet and sexy again. So, let’s know a bit about it, shall we?
Isaac Twain is the new teacher at Hambden University, but he knows nothing about the shooting three months ago that marked them all, teachers and students alike. To make things better, or worse, he becomes interested in colleague and YA writer John Conlon, the one who stopped the shooter. Isaac should know better than to mess around a man as broken as he is, but for different reasons. Each has demons of their own, but are they strong enough to keep on living or will they fall down?

Sounds promising, doesn’t it? The idea of two broken men falling in love for each other was way too sweet for me to resist, so I got a copy. Before anyone says anything, this does not romanticize mental illness but presents it in a very real way.
We Still Live touches painful topics as family, coming out, depression, trauma, and stalking, although I expected this last one to have more protagonism. Sara Dobie Bauer can be sweet or dark as needed, which I admire and respect a lot. She is not a one-style writer, but a versatile one who naturally shifts the reading atmosphere, impacting the reader.
There’s a side of me would like a sequel, but I know that part of the magic in this book is because it is a standalone story, and wouldn’t change that. However, I’m keeping an eye on the author. We Still Live was a beautiful story that I will remember for a while. Thanks to the publisher for the copy!
