Book Review: Talos - Bloodlines of Fate, Book One

Hi there pornies! I hope you are well and safe. ^^ I come with a book I wanted to tell you about because of how creative it is and the topics it touches. While there's some serious themes in it, Talos, by A.G. Carothers, the first book in the Bloodlines of Fate saga, made me smile and... have a reeeeeaaaally good time more than I thought. Thanks a bunch to Gay Book Promotions for the review copy!

"Tell me a story Daddy." Kikoi, xolos wrangler by night and King Talos' snuggle monster by day, demanded.
"What story do you want to hear tonight, baby boy?" Talos, Vampyr King and Supernatural Council Member, asked while he pulled Kikoi onto his lap.
"I want to hear about when you met Daddy Bayne." Almost three hundred years old and Kikoi would never get tired of story time.
"Again?" Talos arched an eyebrow with amusement.
"Yes! It's a good one." Kikoi beamed at Talos.
alos leaned against the headboard of their bed as Bayne, former assassin but still looked damn good in armor, joined them and began...
The Age of Man has passed, and a new age is upon the Earth. An age of magic and technology ruled by the supernatural beings that once hid amongst humanity has begun.
Bayne is thrust into a world he thinks he knows but quickly discovers his whole life has been built on lies. Talos, perfectly happy ruling his corner of the world, is faced with an unexpected and unwelcome change that comes with the mate chosen by Fate. Together they must discover how to live and, in the end, love one another. Fate has more in store for them than learning to love someone they should hate. Will they be open to all the possibilities Fate lays out for them?
Bloodlines of Fate is a new urban fantasy series set in a world destroyed by humans and resurrected by supernatural beings. Fate has many plans for the vampires, unicorns, therianthropes, elves, and humans of this new world. While their mates may be fated, love isn't that easy.
This book contains depictions of gladiatorial combat, snarky fem twinks who will cut you, kings in stilettos, and awkward heats with a pinch of daddy kink.

The story is quite simple, taking place in a world where humans have lost power. A new kind of vampire rules and makes sure that damages done by humanity is taken care of. However, the remaining mortals are not that okay with this idea and they are more than willing to do whatever it takes to get back their so called position of power.

Talos is one hell of a character! I liked that he (should I say they? Seems like a better option). Far from perfect, King Talos makes some mistakes and tries to repair the damage, while also giving us a glimpse of this new vampiric race, their traits and... pastimes. Please, someone take me there! The descriptions were sexy but far from pornographic (there were bits now and then, but's just enough).

I would have liked to have more character development, however. I know this is a fated-lovers kind of romance and that it's supposed to be fast, and I was amazed when Talos explained how the bond between him and Bayne would work, but it all happened to fast! There was not enough time for these characters to really mean what they said to each other, with some exceptions you will notice when you read this book.

Talos was a good first book in the series, one I want to see developing, and presents an intriguing society. A.G. Carothers doesn't goes into much detail in about how things work on it besides some basic information, and I get the feeling there's something more about to come. Thankfully, book 2 comes this october! ^^ So the wait won't be that long.
