I’m just done reading Give up the Ghost, by
Jenn Burke, the second book in the Not Dead Yet series, a book you will fall in
love with if you go get a copy right effing now. If you’re into paranormal
romance, ghosts, vampires and messed-up super powers, you will definitely like
this story!
Wesley Cooper, an immortal, has been keeping a
secret from everyone, including his vampire boyfriend: he has powers now,
magical ones, powers he’s not sure he can keep under control. Funny thing is
that he’s been hiding them for so long there is no point in telling the truth
now. However, as holes begin to appear in the veil between the worlds and
supernatural creatures sneak out of them, each one more dangerous than the
previous, keeping a secret becomes harder than expected. Funnier that that
secret could either be the solution, or not. You never know.
Jenn Burke surprised me with several subplots
and secondary scenes in Give up the Ghost. Although she never lost focus on the
main idea, she added more and more characters, scenes and ideas in order to
build a better well-built world. Both Wesley and Hudson seemed very human to
me, along with the rest of their gang, no matter if they were vamps, witches,
ghosts or anything else (there’s more than that, I promise! *wink*)
Despite it is the second book in the series and
there are obvious references to the first one which I missed (don’t curse me, I
realized there was a previous one after swallowing the first half of this
one!), it is fairly easy to go along with the story and let all of it unfold
before your eyes. Of course you will want to read the series in order, but I
got immersed in Give up the Ghost despite my mistake. That should tell you
something about Jenn Burke’s magic!
Kinky regards, K!
